Diabetic Neuropathy – Your Health Questions

James asks…
What are some home treatments for dealing with pain due to diabetic neuropathy?
My dad has type 2 diabetes, and his legs and feet are always numb and tingling, and sometimes it feels like someone is stabbing needles into his feet and toes. What are some ways to help with that?

Linda answers:
One of the most common is CAPSACIN. Capsacin cremes are found Over-The-Counter (OTC) at most pharmacies. Capsacin is the chemical that makes jalapenos “hot”. But for some reason, when rubbed on the skin it deadens the pain from neuropathy.
But the BEST method is to control the diabetes. GET THOSE BLOOD SUGARS UNDER CONTROL! When the blood sugars are properly controlled, this symptom usually goes away.
But nerves take a LONG time to damage, and having diabetic neuropathy shows that your Dad has been diabetic for a long period of time — possibly years.
So, it will take almost as long to get rid of the neuropathy — nerves are also slow to heal.

Linda asks…

Linda answers:
Check out Dr. Julian Whitaker’s website – has info how to cleanse yourself from diabetes. Do not eat fast releasing carbs like white flour and corn syrup or any over processed – long shelf life foods. Eat veggies, fruits, etc. God bless Why work in na chemical plant?

Thomas asks…
Why is diabetic neuropathy such a big problem in our society?
Any statistics or general info would be great! Thanks!

Linda answers:
I don’t think diabetic neuropathy is such a big problem in society. Who is suggesting that it is?
It’s a problem because it’s a chronic health issue that only gets worse not better. But you can say the same about muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis and many other diseases. In these cases, as well as diabetic neuropathy, the individual may not be a productive member of society because they are dealing with such significant health issues However, many people with chronic illness just suffer through and do what they have to and get to work or school or wherever they need to go.
